Why Do I Need Halloween Prescription Contacts?: My Eye Sight Is Fine

10/12/2011

The question isn't why do you need Halloween contacts, 'cause the answer is they make your costume, and YOU, stand out for Halloween (or any time of year, for that matter). And they're just so fun and cool! The question is more along the lines of why is a prescription required, if vision correction isn't necessary.

If you require vision correction, whether you currently wear plain contacts, or just glasses, or both, you have a prescription prescribed from an eye care professional. This is the same prescription you would use when ordering special effect contact lenses.

The confusion for those interested in getting a pair of those crazy Halloween contacts is when no vision correction is necessary. The wearer just wants to wear the contacts for effect. In this case, it can be confusing when you go to order contacts and a prescription is required. You may be thinking your eye sight is great, so what's with the prescription.

The deal with Halloween prescription contacts is that whether you require vision correction or not, contact lenses come in different sizes, and people have different sized eyes. What this means is that the contact lenses, regular or special effect, that fit your friend's eyes perfectly may just irritate your eyes. This is why a prescription is required. So you can get the right size contacts that will fit your eyes. This is the safest way to go about purchasing special effect contacts.

Another reason that companies will ask you for prescription verification when you order contacts, even though you don't need vision correction is because of what is called the Fairness To Contact Lenses Consumer Act. This Act, in the US, was enacted in February 2004, and requires that anytime an Eye Care Provider (EPC) conducts a contact lens fitting that they provide the patient with a paper copy of their prescription (whether or not they ask for it).

By obtaining this prescription when you are fitted for contact lenses, this allows the wearer to purchase contact lenses from anywhere, even quality cheap colored contacts for Halloween, not just the place where the contact lenses were fitted.

On the flip side, under this Act, it is a requirement for contact lens sellers to verify that patients in the US have had a contact lens fitting and that the prescription is not expired.

So even though you may be wanting Halloween contacts that come in non-prescription, in other words 'plano', with a power of 0.00, the wearer may still be required to have an eye exam and contact lens fitting from an eye care professional.

There you have it. The reason for Halloween prescription contacts explained when you, well, don't need a prescription 'cause your vision is just fine. At least you know when a company asks for your Halloween contact lens prescription, they care about your eye health!

Crazy Halloween Contacts - Do You Pick the Costume or Contacts First?

Spooky season is spooking in, and now is the time to choose those crazy Halloween contacts. So how do you choose which crazy Halloween contacts to get? Do you go for the crazy, crazier, or craziest ones?!

You can pick your costume first, and then get a matching pair of Halloween contacts.
This way you can narrow down your field of choices to a couple of special effect contact lens ideas, and it won't be as overwhelming to choose. For instance, say you were dressing up as a vampire, well naturally and popular-wise, you would go for some kind of red crazy Halloween contacts.

You can pick your Halloween contacts first, and then decide on a costume.
Say you just love red contacts and know this is the color you want, or maybe it's a certain red style, then you think what costume would go with red eyes. So say you picked out the very popular White Out crazy Halloween contacts. Well, with these you could dress yourself up as a vampire, zombie, or witch.

The cool thing with contacts for Halloween is that your eyes are wearing the costume.

So whatever costume your body wears, your eyes have either the same costume, or an entirely different one. It's up to you how matchy-match you want to be with your costume and contacts. Unlike the faux pas of wearing no white past labor day weekend, when it comes to Halloween and crazy Halloween contacts, anything goes!

Costume Contacts Lenses: Become Your Favorite Movie Character

Costume contacts lenses were a big hit last year, and it is being claimed that they are going to be even bigger this year.

Last Halloween, there was huge demand for costume contacts lenses, thanks to the popularity of the Twilight series movies.

Twilight further popularized the vampire and werewolf looks for Halloween and other events, and had contacts flying off the shelves (or into online shopping carts).

People love to spend the time and money on looking as realistic as possible, when it comes to their costumes. Vampire contacts were popular for creating the red eyes of Robert Pattison.

This year has seen the release of yet another Harry Potter movie, one that is filled with mythical creatures. Many fans can't wait to dress up as their favorite creature, with 'real eyes' to boot.

The problem isn't if novelty contact lenses are even available, rather it's knowing which look you want to go for. Suppliers are offering so many different styles and colors, it's tough choosing from so many cool contacts.

If you need vision correction, you will have to decide if you want to wear glasses with your costume contacts, 'cause you definitely can't wear costume contacts on top of your clear contacts.

Otherwise, if you want sight correction, you will want costume contacts that have prescription power. Not all the choices of contacts come in prescription, as many are plano (non-prescription), but there are still tons to choose from.

Get Sexy Eyes: Limbal Ring Contact Lenses

A hot look are the contact lenses with a defined limbal ring. Your limbal ring is the circular line between the dark part (the iris) and white part (the sclera) of your eyes.

With limbal ring contact lenses this outer line is enhanced. The thicker and darker your limbal ring, the more attractive your eyes (and your face) are said to be.

The neat thing with prominent limbal rings is that it won't necessarily be obvious. You won't here anyone really say, "Wow, you have great limbal rings." Instead, you will hear, "Great eyes!", and the person can't even tell you why, specifically.

Just like mascara enhances your eyes and makes them look larger, so do contact lenses with limbal rings. The black ring on the contacts gives your natural eye color more definition, and makes your eyes look larger.

Not only are limbal rings designed to make your eyes look sexy -  in case you happen to drop a contact lens, the dark ring makes it easier for you to find the contact.

There are also limbal ring colored contact lenses. The limbal ring enhances and widens the look of your eyes, and the colored contacts spice up your eye color.

Colored contact lenses with a limbal ring come in subtle and elegant colors, including blue, green, violet, brown and grey.

The cool thing about limbal ring contacts is that they last for 3-6 months, depending on which ones you buy, and how often you wear them.

Just like with any type of contacts, you always want to take care of them properly and follow the advice of your eye care professional.

Check out these innovative contacts that will enhance the natural beauty of your eye, adding a natural looking definition to the limbal ring.

Contact Lenses For Military Night Vision - Is This For Real?

6/29/2011

So there's a rumor going around that the Seal Team 6 crew were wearing night vision contact lenses the night they took Osama down. Yup, almost as cool as Internet contact lenses.

This would make sense in that the night vision helmets can be bulky and heavy. And even though night vision goggle technology has advanced quickly over the decade, even more impressive would be night vision contacts.

Really advanced, unknown technology would first be in use by the military. Based on the stealth helicopters Seal Team 6 were found to zip around in, it wouldn't be surprising if they had access to some more elusive technological toys.

Questions arise however, as to the feasibility of contact lenses for military night vision.

Contacts couldn't provide the panoramic vision necessary when you are in defense and offense modes. Whereas, the typical night vision equipment used in the military would factor that into the equation. And how about adjustment to sudden lighting changes, to say the least?

If night vision contacts somehow do exist, it just doesn't sound practical for soldiers to be wearing night vision contact lenses in combat.

As cool as all this spy stuff sounds, with contact lenses for military night vision - you can't really grab your eye drops when you need them.

How To Get Better Looks - It's All In The Limbal Ring Eyes

The title of this post 'How To Get Better Looks' is interesting. It implies that this post will cover some tips on how we can look better physically. But what's interesting to note is it actually means how we can get people looking our way, and keeping their gaze. ;)

An article just came out explaining a scientific secret to gorgeous eyes. If you were asked what this article would tap into as being a secret to having great eyes, you probably couldn't guess.

Just like when you look at someone and they sort of take your breath away, but you don't really know why..

A recent study discovered that the darker your limbal ring, which is the circular border between the colored part of your eye and the white part, the more attractive you are to others.

The darker and more distinct your limbal ring, then the more others find you attractive. This is true for both males and females.

What does this feature have to do with being more attractive anyway? Again, not like we turn to our friend beside us and say 'Wow, that guy has such sexy limbal rings.' It's all about reproduction in our subconscious minds.

Your limbal ring highlights your youthfulness and health. Essentially, the ring shade fades with age and with illness. A thick and dark limbal ring also gives us the appearance of being younger.

With our youth and beauty obsessed society, it is not a surprise this study was done in the first place. The nice thing is that a lot of things we can do to perk up our looks doesn't need to involve plastic surgery.

Simply put on a pair of contact lenses with limbal ring, and voila, an easy way to get people mesmerized by you.

Internet Contact Lenses: The Way of The Future

4/25/2011

Technology is amazing.

The advancements of the future can never quite be predicted. Or can they?

Supposedly contact lenses were first described and sketched by Leonardo da Vinci in the early 1500's, but it wasn't until 1801 when the first workable model was developed. Contact lenses became an official part of the practice of optometry in 1945.

Popular soft contacts, as we know them, were designed in 1960. They weren't available to the general public until the 1970's.  Advancements since this time have seen different types of contacts lenses emerge, including bifocal, daily wear, disposable, colored, etc.

It's amazing how something was thought up, like with da Vinci's vision (pun) of contacts, only to become so common-place these days.

It's almost like with the rate of technology where it's at and new things on the market all the time, are our senses sort of immune to being awestricken? Have we come to sit back and 'expect' changes in technology to get better and better?

Or with new ideas that get developed, are we still on the edge of our seat wondering what could possibly be next?

If you were told that by 2020 there would be contact lenses with computer chips in them, where you would blink and be online, would you think it a future possibility or not at all?

What if you were told that your contact lenses are programmed to recognize faces, give you a person's biography, and provide language translation sub-titles? The military is already pioneering this technology.

Already there are chips implanted in people's brains that allow paralyzed people to use the computer.

So just like Arnold Schwarzenegger, in Terminator, was able to zero in on an object and identify a person, so too will we be able to.

Just the fact that contact lenses are a nicer alternative than glasses shows that this technology, as is, was impressive enough!

Get Liz Taylor Eyes with Purple Color Contact Lenses

She's got Liz Taylor Eyes...

Elizabeth Taylor will be remembered for her iconic impact on the world. But something truly unique about her are those Liz Taylor eyes of violet.

I remember seeing violet contacts and wondering if anyone does indeed have violet eyes. Though I haven't met anyone who has natural purple eyes, it doesn't mean that I know a ton of people either.

Besides, it is said that violet eyes are more rare than green eyes. And though you do see green eyes often enough, they are definitely not as common as brown or blue eyes.

Theories as to what makes eyes purple vary. If it is a gene mutation then we wouldn't mind having that sort of mutated gene. It's always best when we have features that not everyone else has.

Supposedly it was her eyes that inspired the making of the violet contacts in the 1980's. If so, we are thankful for Liz Taylor eyes.

You Won't Get Pinched With Shamrock Contacts Lenses!

Green and St. Patrick's Day go together like white on rice. Well, you know what I mean. The color green is worn to celebrate the Emerald Isle, which Ireland is known as, and an emerald is, well, green. This is why we wear green on St. Patrick's Day.

But where does the whole pinching thing originate from?

It's an American tradition. Supposedly it's to warn you and remind you that leprechauns pinch anyone they can see.  But green is invisible to the leprechauns. So if someone pinches you, it's to remind you that you should be wearing green.

Interesting to note that if you do pinch someone and they are indeed wearing green, they can pinch you 10 times in repercussion.

So don't jump to conclusions and pinch carelessly. That person just may be wearing green socks or underwear even.

If you're planning to go out for dinner, drinks, or an event of some kind on St. Patrick's Day, don't forget to wear your green.

Perhaps you want a unique costume accessory that will be different from a typical green shirt.

Shamrock contact lenses are the way to go.

The shamrock, a 3-leaved plant, is often used to symbolize and celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17th.

Have a great St. Patrick's Day!
